For four weeks this June and July, memories will come be made as Special Olympics New Hanover County hosts Camp Shriver 2012 at Williston Middle School, on 10th Street, Wilmington, NC.

   Camp Shriver runs from 8:30 am until 2:00 pm each weekday. Campers with are grouped together on teams that rotate through 45 minute activity blocks. Athletic activities include soccer, basketball, bocce, bowling on rainy days and swimming. There are also sessions that include camp wide activities such as track meets,  and informal games such as kickball. Each camper has the opportunity to participate in every activity offered

   In addition to athletic activities, campers participate in enrichment sessions on topics environmental science, fire safety and art activities. Camp Shriver works with the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, and the Wilmington Fire Department to lead these sessions. A healthy lifestyle is further promoted at Camp through the provision of healthy lunches, and snacks (with accommodations made for any individual dietary restrictions). Campers also may take take field trips if there is adverse weather. Each Friday is our family day cookout that will held at the Legion Stadium Complex.

New for 2012

       This year following the camp on Tuesdays from 2:00 to 4:00pm there will be a summer skills program for lower skilled athletes at the MLK center. More information on the exact start date and completion date will announced at a later date. Please check back often.

The 2012 Camp schedule is;   

Session I, 6/25 – 6/29 (campers age 8 – 15 yrs.)  

Session II, 7/9 –7/13 (campers age 15 – 21 yrs.)

Session III, 7/16 – 7/20 (campers 21 yrs. & Older)

Session IV, 7/23 – 7/27 (campers 21 yrs. & Older)
