Welcome to Special Olympics New Hanover County, North Carolina. Special Olympics New Hanover County provides year-round sports training, competition, social events and Camp Shriver summer camp for people eight years of age and older with intellectual disabilities. In New Hanover County, over 600 athletes participate in Special Olympics. Our program receives no government funding and relies solely on private and corporate support as well as the efforts of over 300 volunteers to provide these services at no cost to the athletes or their families.

Participants are required to attend all practices and have updated medical forms on file to be eligible to compete in the state level competition (June 2-4th). To register for a sport, go to the weekly practice listed below to sign up with the Coach

Sports Banquet:Free sports banquet for all athletes that participant in the local sports trainings (soccer, bocce, tennis, golf, and basketball).  The sports banquet will be for all registered athletes that went to the summer games and fall games.  The banquet will be held in November.

Bowling:  Cardinal Lanes training begins in Mid-March  Spring Sport Practices are held every Thursday from 3-5pm   State Games:  June 1-3 Raleigh, NC
Swimming: Swim practices will be every Tuesday evening from 6:30 – 7:30pm at the YWCA begins on February 6th
Spring Sport Free Swim: from 7:30-8pm
Power Lifting: You must pre-register by calling 341-7253

Softball:  Softball practices are every Tuesday 6-7:30pm at the MLK Center on 8thStreet Spring Sport ; practice begins March 6th

Gymnastics:  Gymnastics practices are held every Monday from 6:30-7:30pm; Practices begins January 5th at Port City Gymnastics   State Games:  June 1-3 Raleigh, NC
Cheerleading: Cheer practices are held every Thursday at the Northside Church from 5:30-6:30pm; Practices are year-round

Volleyball: Volleyball practice every Wednesday 6-7pm begins March 14th at Williston  Middle School

Karate Class:  Karate Classes are held on Fridays at Wilmington New International Karate   Call for more information
Unified Basketball: Date - TBA, Unified basketball league at UNCW from 6-7:30pm

2018 Run-N-Plunge Feb. 17, 2018

    Help support our local athletes by participating in the 5K, 1 mile walk or by taking a chilling plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. 100% of the money raised goes directly to support Special Olympics New Hanover County. The Polar Plunge takes place February 17, 2018 at the Kure Beach Boardwalk by the pier. For more information click the Polar Plunge tab. To register, see below.
