   Welcome to Special Olympics New Hanover County! More than 500 athletes train year-round in 11 different sports and compete in local, regional and state-level events. Special Olympics New Hanover County partners with Wilmington Parks and Recreation for use of facilities and equipment. Our offices are located at 302 Willard Street in Downtown Wilmington.

   It is that time of year when Christmas and New Years has past us by and we are getting ready to take that GIANT PLUNGE into the chilly Atlantic Ocean  to support Special Olympics N C, New Hanover County. This year is the 8th Annual Polar Plunge and it will be held on Feb. 18, 2012 at The Boardwalk in Carolina Beach, NC.

  For more information and to register on-line for the plunge, please click on the Event button at the top of this page, click on Polar Plunge than move the cursor down to individual or team registration. For teams, if you need to add more members to your team, fill out the team foem and submit it, hit reset and fill out the rest of the team, be sure to at least put the team name in if using more than one form . We look forward to seeing you there.

  We want to thank everyone that took the plunge in 2011, watched the plunge, and especially to our sponsors for making this a great event.  I would like to again give a special thanks to Tom Briggs, Artistic Director of the Thalian Association, for being a wonderful supporter of Special Olympics and for being our Master of Ceremonies.
